"James mostly did well. However... • it became apparent that overcharging was occurring when large fees were being charged for not enough work; a bug fix would end up costing me much more than expected because multiple attempts were made at fixing root causes, each accumulating hourly charges (and those issues were found by me, not through James' QA on his own bugs). So I lost in $ and time. This could have been due to inexperience, not seemingly intentional. • regarding tech debt introduced (and incomplete bug fixes), when asked to resolve (after he was paid in full), he refused to fix and resolve the situation without charging for more $. There remains a few task fixes for which I'm having to make those fixes and re-reversal of changes myself. It's apparent that he was more focused on getting paid than actually making sure his work fixed my issues. This is bad business practice, which again may be due to inexperience, not seemingly intentional. • there was a time he asked for free $ for a mac so he can continue working on mobile; I never seen this before. I was also given false advice on mobile development instead of him saying "I don't know". This costed me thousands of dollars (in retrospect). This may be due to inexperience, not seemingly intentional. • he was unresponsive to a "$ per task" pay schedule which shows he is expected to get paid for re-work by not completing the task completely from the start. This may be due to inexperience, not seemingly intentional. • there was one invoice I was charged ~$1000 (for 1 week) and no tasks were completed; it was for a mobile configuration (and app already built). We ended up re-negotiating that to $0 for that week (which was good, thanks James), but shows the charging practice is a little extreme. The mentioned task was handed off to someone else. One positive was that I felt I could rely on James' responsiveness during immediate action for critical tasks, as he's always available and seems like a nice guy. He will hold this role for us until we find someone more senior/expert level, making sure nothing critical is broken as time moves forward."
